The Details:
Moritz Furst, designer. American Institute Premium Medal. Struck by William and John Mott, Philadelphia, 1831.
Gift of Charles Henry Taylor, n.d.
The Story:
Awarded to John Pendleton for excellence in lithography, this bronze medal is a rare survivor. Several prints by Pendleton could be contenders for the 1831 winner, including a portrait of Washington after Rembrandt Peale, a genre scene of a woman with a miniature, or a view of Niagara Falls. This medal was one of many that Charles Henry Taylor collected and donated to the Society.
