The Details:
Florida General Assembly. Report of the Committee Appointed to Frame the Plan of Provisional Government for the Republic of Floridas… Fernandina, Florida: R. Findley, December 9, 1817. [catalog record]
Purchased with funds bequeathed by Thomas W. Streeter, 1967.
The Story:
At the second Streeter sale, AAS acquired a rare copy of this early Florida imprint. This 1817 report is the only known specimen of printing made in Florida between 1784 and 1821. The Fernandina press on Amelia Island probably existed for less than a month; apparently it also issued a newspaper, though no copies survive.
