The Story:
Ruth E. Adomeit started collecting children’s and miniature books while a college student. Later, she compiled Three Centuries of Thumb Bibles (1980), which remains the standard bibliography. Here is a fine example of an early nineteenth-century miniature bible owned by Adomeit as well as a religious subject color picture book by Gustav Sigismund Peters. Adomeit funded an endowment for the purchase of children’s books, ensuring that the collection would grow.
