Summer Employment

Typically, the Society employs one to three people during the summer to work in various departments including Readers’ Services and Cataloging. We strive to match candidates with managers and departments to provide a positive and rewarding work experience. Summer employment is for for eight to twelve weeks, between May and August, and will be posted under “Current Open Positions”. We anticipate posting for summer 2024 positions in spring 2024. Positions may be full- or part-time.

 

Internships

Conservation Internship - The Conservation Internship was established in 2020 to provide training opportunities for emerging professionals in the field of book and archives conservation. The internship is held in residence at the conservation lab at the American Antiquarian Society in Worcester, Massachusetts. The 2024 Internship deadline has passed.

Volunteering

Occasionally, AAS can welcome volunteers based on availability of managers and match of skills and interest with open projects. If you are interested in volunteering, please email careers@mwa.org.

 

Nipmuc Community Internship - The Nipmuc Community Internship was established in 2022 to offer tribal members pathways to library work and the opportunity to learn about archival and historic preservation. If you are interested in learning more about this internship, please contact careers@mwa.org.

Seiler Library Internship - This internship is an opportunity to explore librarianship by working at a national research library, participating in its daily activities, completing library-based projects, and beginning to develop a network of contacts in the field. This residential internship will provide an overview of possible careers in the library field. We will next host this internship in Spring of 2025; please look for an application process in Fall of 2024.

 

Occasionally, internships may be offered based on the availability of managers and in conjunction with college or university requirements. If you have a proposal for such an academic internship, please contact us at careers@mwa.org.
